Our heart felt condolences and sorrow in Roy's passing. We so enjoyed his presence in the Sunday Chapel Services which we hosted on the 3rd & 5th Sundays of each month. The fellowship/coffee time in the Forest Cafe was also very memorable! He was always so appreciative. In Christian Love Steve & Jeannette

Our condolences to the family. Steve and I lived on Connolly near Roy and Lorna for 12 years. Roy was sincere and always interested in others rather than himself. As he went by on his walks he would always stop and chat with Steve. After moving to Forest, they continued their talks when Steve visited the Lodge to work. Rest in peace Roy.

Sincere sympathy to all Roy's family. I worked in the office at Mueller for 42 years and knew Roy from working in the plant. He was a great person, always took time to stop and have a visit with all. The piture of Roy shows his nice smile that I remember. I remember when he had his stroke and how he was able to return to work before early retirement. Vi Henderson

Roy Abell passed last night. He was an amazing man, husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was born March 10th, 1919 to a farm family in south-western Ontario. He faced many challenges in his life. During the depression, he was barely able to feed his young family. He almost died training for the Canadian Army assault of Italy catching pneumonia before the availability of penicillin. He had a stroke that greatly affected his speech and use of his right side as a young father of four. He never complained or saw these challenges as obstacles to his life.
He was truly a member of the greatest generation.
My grandfather taught me the values of thrift, hard work, and family. He shaped my values and life. As a kid, I will never forget him teaching me to play cribbage, one handed, while he sipped a Crown Royal & ginger ale, and Charlie Pride played on the turn table. The stories he told me of being a dirt farmer, getting a speeding ticket in his Model-T roadster, and memories of Detroit Tigers spring training games in Lakeland Florida, all brought smiles to both of us.
The pride he had in his vegetable garden, or joy of a good Spam or canned sardine sandwich, and a family Sunday dinner - were all simple and pure. We had a wonderful family visit this past Christmas. It was so special to see him with my kids. Even at 93, he gave the most genuine, strong, and loving hugs.
"someday when we meet up yonder, we will stroll hand and hand again, in a land that knows no parting" Charlie Pride Blue eyes crying in the rain
Rest in peace popa.
