Obituary of Gwendolyn Grant
Born August 27th, 1917 in Montreal
Died October 16th, 2008 in Sarnia Hospital
This independent dynamic lady will always be remembered by her cousin Sheila Collier (Peter Baron), Sheila's children Stuart, Todd, Kim and their families, dear friends Brenda, Ray, Melina, Jolene Douglas and the many people whose lives she touched over her 91 years. Gwens main love was sports. She was a Canadian Track and Field Champion. She held the Canadian record for 60m sprint, but excelled also in distance running, high jump, long jump and javelin. A big disappointment was the cancellation of the 1940 Summer Olympics, in which she would have participated. She was a captain for her eastern Canadian Championship Basketball team. Gwen excelled at every sport she did including golf and curling. She has a trunk full of metals, cups, news clippings, which show her successes. She also loved to fish. Gwen loved animals and is survived by her pal Darby. Gwen came to Sarnia when Cabot Carbon opened their plant, to be Executive Assistant to the President. A position she held for 30 years. Gwen's mind never failed her- following to the end the stock market, politics and all sports. She bought herself a new car for her 90th birthday. This amazing lady will be missed. Cremation has taken place with her ashes to be taken to Shuswap Lake B.C. Donations to the Sarnia S.P.C.A, 131 Exmouth St., Sarnia, ON, N7T 7W8 would be appreciated. Memorial reception to be held Saturday, November 1st, 2008 at 2:30pm at the Sarnia Golf and Curling Club, 500 Errol Rd., Sarnia.
