Obituary of John Nasvadi

Suddenly, but peacefully in his 94th year, John George Nasvadi grew tired and returned to his Creator on Friday, June 28, 2013. He lived a full life and he will be missed by all his loved ones. Loving husband for over 67 years to Eileen, he was also the proud father of Roy of Vancouver and Keith (Wendy) of Bright's Grove. Included in his circle of pride and love are his four grandchildren: Jeff, Mark (Sherry), Alyssa and Blair and 3 great grandchildren: Madison, Carter and Tucker. John was a beloved brother-in-law and special uncle to many nieces and nephews. Over the years, John enjoyed playing golf with his friends and family. A favourite family pastime was the many card games and no gathering was complete without this. John was born November 22, 1919 in Tamasi, Hungary. His family came to Canada soon after and eventually settled in Forest where they flourished. John served his country with distinction during World War II receiving several medals and commendations. As a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Reconnaissance he was part of the D Day Invasion and the liberation of Holland. John and Eileen settled in Forest where he successfully owned and operated Forest Family Shoes for many years. His business reputation was known far and wide for quality care and service. In addition, John was active in many community organizations. As a member of the Forest Legion, he served in a variety of posts, including President. For his efforts he received many medals of recognition by the Royal Canadian Legion. John was a faithful participant of Remembrance Day Services in Forest and volunteered his time in many local schools in sharing his experiences, including a permanent video record as part of The Memory Project by the Dominion Institute. As a member of Christ Church Anglican Church he served many years as a Warden. Additional community citations include membership of the Lambton Chamber of Commerce, the Forest Chamber of Commerce, Curling Club President and volunteering at the Lambton Seniors Home. A private family service will be held at Christ Church, Forest Ontario.
