I arrived in 1RCR in 1969 as a brand new LT and had little experience as to what battalin life was all about. Dave was one of those older more experienced officers we naturally looked too. He was a natural leader and one we all respected. May he rest in peace.

We joined 1RCR in 1961. I was a fellow subaltern with David. We enjoyed him as a comrade and an example. What wonderful memories we have of David and Shirley in Germany. A fine man and an exemplary officer, he will be missed. Our thoughts are with you. Pat and Bill

Dear Shirley and family, Maureen and I send you our sincere condolences. I have many fond memories of Dave when we served together in 1RCR. In the winter of 1960 Dave and I and another young subaltern headed south from Camp Borden where we were serving with the demo company. With camping gear in tow we drove in Dave's station wagon to Florida and camped for about 3 weeks in the Everglades National Park. We had a wonderful time together and often talked about it years later. It was a privilege to have known Dave and to have served with such a caring, thoroughly professional officer and gentleman. Our thoughts are with all of you.

Dear Shirley, as friends from the distant past, we send you our sincere condolences. We hope that your many years together have given you fond memories that will sustain you and your family in the coming days. We often look at faded pictures from Sarnia and Germany and smile at our youthful exuberance. With love, M&M

Dave was Senior Subaltern of the First Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment when I was commissioned in 1962. Dave, whom I had already met when I was a Cadet, always impressed me with his professionalism and his humanity, traits not easily found in any officer no matter how accomplished. I always admired Dave, and benefitted from his leadership and his example throughout my career. I will always remember him.
