Obituary of Ruby Butler

It is with great sadness and mourning that the family of Ruby Estelle (Romphf) Butler, 85, of Forest, announces that she died on July 24th, after a brief illness surrounded by loving family and her pastor. Ruby is survived by her 3 daughters-Connie, Pat (Dan), and Betty (John), as well as 2 grandchildren, Jason (Kathleen), and Juli (Mike), and her great-grandson Cooper. In addition, she is survived by her sisters-in-law Marie Romphf and Aletha Larsen. Ruby was predeceased by her husband Carman Butler, her brothers, Harold Romphf (Marie), Frank Jr, and Lyle, as well as her brother-in-law Ove Larsen (Aletha). Mother was the quintessential housewife, and proud of her 3 daughters who were the focus of the marriage, Connie and Pat pursued 35+ years-long careers in Nursing and Education, while Betty earned the distinction of providing mother with 2 wonderful grandchildren. . Connie was a nurse in many locations throughout her career including BC, London, Toronto, and Australia. At the end of her exciting career she was the Infection Control Officer at Scarborough General Hospital in Toronto when she retired. Pat worked for the Thames Valley District School Board as a teacher, Vice-Principal, and Principal for 35 years, and then at Western University's Faculty of Education on a part-time basis as a Faculty Advisor. Betty married John Konc of Forest and in addition to working with John in his successful trucking business of 20+years, K-Motion, Betty is currently a politician in Wainfleet, and business owner in Port Colborne, both of which she finds stimulating and rewarding. In the final year of her life, mother relocated from Forest where she was born, to Port Colborne, to be closer to Betty, where she flourished in the beginning, with her new adventure. Mother loved baking for fun, and was famous among family and friends for her butter tarts, black balls, and her bread. No-one could eat just one of mother's confections. Those who received her Christmas trays in Forest will know what we mean when we suggest that you had to have a special "Ruby" touch to reproduce her baked goods! We will always remember mother for her strong work ethic, honesty, love of good fun, her love of dancing, her ever-present music which included her favourite singers such as Marty Robbins, Eddie Arnold, Jim Reeves, & Patsy Kline, her sage advice, her generosity, and her humility at her good fortune to have lived a blessed life among those she loved and respected. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. At Ruby's request, there will be no funeral service and cremation has occurred. However, friends and relatives are invited to a reception with the family at the FOREST CHAPEL OF DENNING FUNERAL DIRECTORS in Forest at 9 James Street South, on Sunday July 29th, 2012 between 2-4 PM. At this time, we will celebrate and remember mother and her remarkable life.
